Last week, the “2024 Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) School of Electrical Engineering and its Automation - Jingtian Robotics Engineering Camp” was successfully completed, while the Hubei Province “Jingtian Cup” Intelligent Navigation Robot Competition was successfully held! The two science and technology events have added a great deal of color to this summer.

1、HUST Robotics Engineering Camp

In this summer full of innovation and challenges, the Robotics Engineering Camp organized by Jingtian Robotics and the School of Electrical Engineering of Huazhong University of Science and Technology finally came to a successful end after two weeks of close cooperation and unremitting exploration.

Looking back on this Robotics Engineering Training Camp, from the initial theoretical learning, system installation to coding test, to the final Turtlebot4 path planning results show, every step of the way cohesion of the trainees' sweat and wisdom. During the two-week intensive training, the students not only mastered the operation of the ROS system, but also studied popular applications such as SLAM map building technology and autonomous fixed-point navigation. Based on the Turtlebot4 platform, students completed training requirements such as autonomous scene building, fixed-point cruise and multi-point navigation, line patrol tasks, real-time dynamic obstacle avoidance, etc., closely combining theory and practice and realizing the leap from theoretical learning to hands-on operation.

2、Hubei Province “Jingtian Cup” Intelligent Navigation Robot Competition

Immediately following the pace of the training camp, Hubei Province “Jingtian Cup” Intelligent Navigation Robotics Competition took over the baton on July 20, attracting 17 undergraduate teams from Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Hubei University of Technology, Jianghan University and other well-known colleges and universities to participate in the competition, which demonstrated the innovative ability and spirit of practice of the young scholars.

In the morning, the competition was kicked off with the “Intelligent Navigation Laboratory” technical exchange meeting. Before the meeting started, Prof. Zhang Guozhong delivered a speech, emphasizing the double value of the competition for university education and enterprise innovation. Afterwards, Prof. Meng Xiaoliang spoke highly of the competition, especially welcomed Jingtian and thanked them for their support. During the meeting, Prof. Guo Chi, an expert in the field of intelligent navigation laboratory, was invited to give a special report, sharing the latest research results and industry dynamics in the field of intelligent navigation, which provided valuable knowledge resources and inspiration for the participating teachers and students.

In the afternoon, the intense and fierce competition began. The participating teams maneuvered the Turtlebot4 robot to complete a series of complex tasks in the simulated urban environment, including parking, identifying traffic lights, traversing tunnels, bypassing traffic signs, arriving at the designated inspection point, and crossing roadblocks. Each round of challenges tested the robot's intelligent navigation ability, and at the same time, it was also a comprehensive test of the participating team's innovative thinking and technical strength.

After a fierce competition and fair judging by the panel of judges, two first prizes, four second prizes, six third prizes, and a number of outstanding awards were finally decided. Each honor is a recognition of the participants' hard work and an encouragement to the future explorers of science and technology.

The successful conclusion of the Hubei “Jingtian Cup” Robot Navigation Competition is not only an affirmation of the wisdom and efforts of the participating teams, but also a profound reflection on the future development direction of the field of intelligent navigation. It not only strengthens the cooperation between universities and enterprises, provides a platform for students to practice and innovate, but also inspires the young generation's infinite enthusiasm for scientific and technological exploration.
